¹⁰ “And when the Lord your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—with great and good cities ^(A)that you did not build, ¹¹ and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—and when you eat and are full, ^12 (B)then take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. ¹³ It is ^(C)the Lord your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and ^(D)by his name you shall swear. ¹⁴ You shall not ^(E)go after other gods, ^(F)the gods of the peoples who are around you— ¹⁵ for ^(G)the Lord your God in your midst ^(H)is a jealous God—^(I)lest the anger of the Lord your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth.

^16 (J)“You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, ^(K)as you tested him at Massah. ¹⁷ You shall ^(L)diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded you. ^18 (M)And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may go well with you, and that you may go in and take possession of the good land that the Lord swore to give to your fathers ^19 (N)by thrusting out all your enemies from before you, as the Lord has promised.

^20 (O)“When your son asks you in time to come, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies and the statutes and the rules that the Lord our God has commanded you?’ ²¹ then you shall say to your son, ^(P)‘We were Pharaoh's slaves in Egypt. And the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. ²² And ^(Q)the Lord showed signs and wonders, great and grievous, against Egypt and against Pharaoh and all his household, before our eyes. ²³ And he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in and give us the land that he swore to give to our fathers. ²⁴ And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, ^(R)to fear the Lord our God, ^(S)for our good always, that ^(T)he might preserve us alive, as we are this day. ²⁵ And ^(U)it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to do all this commandment before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us.’

Josiah Keeps the Passover

35 ^(A)Josiah kept a Passover to the Lord in Jerusalem. And they slaughtered the Passover lamb ^(B)on the fourteenth day of the first month. ² He appointed the priests to their offices ^(C)and encouraged them in the service of the house of the Lord. ³ And he said to the Levites ^(D)who taught all Israel and who were holy to the Lord, “Put the holy ark in the house that Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, built. You need not carry it on your shoulders. Now serve the Lord your God and his people Israel. ⁴ Prepare yourselves ^(E)according to your fathers' houses by your divisions, ^(F)as prescribed in the writing of David king of Israel ^(G)and the document of Solomon his son. ⁵ And ^(H)stand in the Holy Place ^(I)according to the groupings of the fathers' houses of your brothers the lay people, and according to the division of the Levites by fathers' household. ⁶ And slaughter the Passover lamb, and ^(J)consecrate yourselves, and prepare for your brothers, to do according to the word of the Lord by^[a] Moses.”

⁷ Then Josiah contributed to the lay people, as Passover offerings for all who were present, lambs and young goats from the flock to the number of 30,000, and 3,000 bulls; ^(K)these were from the king's possessions. ⁸ And his officials contributed willingly to the people, to the priests, and to the Levites. ^(L)Hilkiah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, the chief officers of the house of God, gave to the priests for the Passover offerings 2,600 Passover lambs and 300 bulls. ⁹ Conaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethanel his brothers, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, the chiefs of the Levites, gave to the Levites for the Passover offerings 5,000 lambs and young goats and 500 bulls.

¹⁰ When the service had been prepared for, the priests ^(M)stood in their place, ^(N)and the Levites in their divisions according to the king's command. ^11 (O)And they slaughtered the Passover lamb, and the priests ^(P)threw the blood that they received from them ^(Q)while the Levites flayed the sacrifices. ¹² And they set aside the burnt offerings that they might distribute them according to the groupings of the fathers' houses of the lay people, to offer to the Lord, as it is written in the Book of Moses. And so they did with the bulls. ^13 (R)And they roasted the Passover lamb with fire according to the rule; and they ^(S)boiled the holy offerings in pots, in cauldrons, and in pans, and carried them quickly to all the lay people. ¹⁴ And afterward they prepared for themselves and for the priests, because the priests, the sons of Aaron, were offering the burnt offerings and the fat parts until night; so the Levites prepared for themselves and for the priests, the sons of Aaron. ¹⁵ The singers, the sons of Asaph, were in their place ^(T)according to the command of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the king's ^(U)seer; ^(V)and the gatekeepers were at each gate. They did not need to depart from their service, for their brothers the Levites prepared for them.

¹⁶ So all the service of the Lord was prepared that day, to keep the Passover and to offer burnt offerings on the altar of the Lord, according to the command of King Josiah. ¹⁷ And the people of Israel who were present kept the Passover at that time, ^(W)and the Feast of Unleavened Bread seven days. ^18 (X)No Passover like it had been kept in Israel since the days of Samuel the prophet. None of the kings of Israel had kept such a Passover as was kept by Josiah, and the priests and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ¹⁹ In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah this Passover was kept.

Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind

9 As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. ² And his disciples asked him, ^(A)“Rabbi, ^(B)who sinned, ^(C)this man or ^(D)his parents, that he was born blind?” ³ Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but ^(E)that the works of God might be displayed in him. ⁴ We must ^(F)work the works of him who sent me ^(G)while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. ⁵ As long as I am in the world, ^(H)I am the light of the world.” ⁶ Having said these things, ^(I)he spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. ^(J)Then he anointed the man's eyes with the mud ⁷ and said to him, “Go, wash in ^(K)the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). So he went and washed and ^(L)came back seeing.

⁸ The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar were saying, ^(M)“Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?” ⁹ Some said, “It is he.” Others said, “No, but he is like him.” He kept saying, “I am the man.” ¹⁰ So they said to him, “Then how were your eyes opened?” ¹¹ He answered, ^(N)“The man called Jesus made mud and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed and received my sight.” ¹² They said to him, “Where is he?” He said, “I do not know.”

¹⁰ and which now has ^(A)been manifested through ^(B)the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, ^(C)who abolished death and ^(D)brought life and ^(E)immortality to light through the gospel, ^11 (F)for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, ^12 (G)which is why I suffer as I do. But ^(H)I am not ashamed, for ^(I)I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until ^(J)that day ^(K)what has been entrusted to me.^{[a] 13 (L)}Follow ^(M)the pattern of ^(N)the sound^[b] words ^(O)that you have heard from me, in ^(P)the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. ¹⁴ By the Holy Spirit ^(Q)who dwells within us, guard ^(R)the good deposit entrusted to you.

¹⁵ You are aware that ^(S)all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. ¹⁶ May the Lord grant mercy to ^(T)the household of Onesiphorus, for he often ^(U)refreshed me and was not ashamed of ^(V)my chains, ¹⁷ but when he arrived in Rome ^(W)he searched for me earnestly and found me— ¹⁸ may the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on ^(X)that day!—and you well know all the service he ^(Y)rendered at Ephesus.
